“Wisdom of The I Ching” by Krystyna Laycraft

Gallery Vertigo is pleased to host the exhibition “Wisdom of The I Ching” by Krystyna Laycraft. The exhibit showcases a body of work inspired by the ancient Chinese text, The I Ching (The Book of Changes). Krystyna, a physicist by career, has through her artistic collages created an exhibition which includes collages representing the 64 hexagrams and 8 trigrams that illustrate the I Ching’s principles of change, transformation, and the interplay of Yin and Yang.

Rooted in deep philosophical and psychological exploration, the collages use vibrant paper and Matisse-inspired cut-out techniques to convey abstract and symbolic representations of natural forces and human experiences. Krystyna draws from personal insights and Richard Wilhelm’s translation of The I Ching, seeking to connect ancient wisdom with contemporary life.

The exhibition also features interactive components such as a workshop, and artist talk offering visitors an immersive experience into the meaning, symbolism, and emotional resonance behind the art. A companion book, “The I Ching as Seen Through Collages”, serves as a guide to the works.
