Growing as an artist with NOAA: Real World Experience

So here’s the appropriate opening paragraph for this blog. Read along with me, it’s a bit dry, but it’s innocuous. ‘Whether you  consider yourself an emerging or developing artist, or perhaps you are returning to your passion for art after retirement, or just want to explore new ways to stretch your creative potential, we have opportunities for you here at Gallery Vertigo.’

Quite pleasant, right? And it’s actually true. We are a gallery run by and for artists, but also by and for the community surrounding us, and we are passionate about our role in bringing a voice to the plethora of talented artists that would otherwise remain unheard. We know you’re out there. We’re here to lift you up.

GETTING YOUR ART HUNG

We are a smaller training gallery with less stringent guidelines for entry, and more importantly, are here to support emerging and developing talent in producing and defining new shows. With video and sound capabilities (coming soon!) there are significant opportunities for interactive content as well as traditional displays. We also offer hosting for music and literary events, your art isn’t limited to visual arts with Gallery Vertigo.

Where can you hang your art? Well, we have options. Multiple options!

If you’re just starting out, you might be comfortable with our Members Wall or one of our window rentals. Members Wall is a free hanging option open to our membership once every two years, for a full month of show hanging time. Our two windows are available for rentals, to both members and non-members, anytime with no restrictions. The members wall and the windows are excellent choices for artists who may have a smaller collection of work for display or who would prefer to start their journey with a stroll, rather than a sprint!

For the artist who has created a collection that would benefit from a larger display, our main gallery is a large, bright space with high ceilings and bone-white walls, using a clip-rail hanging system designed to display your work to its best possible advantage. We also have opening receptions for our artists, and our website and social media platforms are here to support your journey as well. With photography and video to document your work and your experience, we are excited to see what you do next!

We also offer workshops given by our members, and if you’re interested in giving a workshop, you can let us know. Knowledge is power.

GETTING OUR ART HUNG

There are infinite ways of creating. We can’t do what we do without the help of others, and help in the form of persons who are willing to nail things down and lift heavy things and make with the fixy fixy? You are not overlooked on the list of creative artists that we love, and need, and hope to give a voice as well – oh please DO come talk to us. We have so many ways of making your work valued!

Finally, getting a chance to volunteer in the gallery itself is excellent work experience and also just plain awesome social time. The new gallery location means there’s plenty of walk in traffic, lots of people are enjoying the art, more sales and exposure for our artists, and more importantly, more artists being featured and displayed.

Go to galleryvertigo.com for more information, or drop by the gallery during open hours Tuesday through Saturday 10:30 am – 4:30 pm to become a member and volunteer, and find out more about how to exhibit with us. We want to hear from you about what you want from us, and how we can make this a gallery for all of our voices.
